From Zero Mile Gardens in St Thomas, to Shillingford Organics, Exeter Seed Bank, and Food Exeter, our city is slowly transforming into a food-growing hub. Join us and Rebecca Sandover from the University of Exeter for a leisurely stroll around Sage Green CIC, a Community Market Garden on Powderham Estates, to hear more about the sustainable food networks that are forming all across the South West. We eat every day, but how often do we actually stop to think about where our food has come from? What is the impact food production has on the environment? Can local food networks help us fight food poverty?
For practical tips on how to grow food in your garden, allotment, or community, Sage Green CIC Director and Grower Jeanette Tucker will share what she has learned over the past six years of cultivating her garden. You don’t need to be a grower to enjoy this talk! Come along, be curious, ask questions, chat with others, and make comments.
The event will run for approximately 90 minutes and we expect to walk for 2 miles. The walk is suited for those aged 8 and above. Please dress weather appropriately!
On this occasion, we will only be walking to Sage Green CIC, a privately-run community market garden. If you would like to visit Powderham Estate before or after this event, you can purchase a ticket (£15) at the estate entrance.

We will meet in front of Powderham Farm Shop (EX6 8JQ) from 2.30 PM. There is a car park for you to leave your car. We will start walking to Sage Green CIC at 2.45 PM, so please arrive promptly.
Accessibility: Due to the nature of the garden, this is not a wheelchair-accessible walk. Read more about accessibility.
If you’d like to attend, but don’t have a car, or would like to chat through accessibility, get in touch with us at contact@agile-rabbit.com. We’re happy to advise you further.
There will be two fully-accessible walks over the summer: The Benefits of Blue Spaces and Fantastic Fungal Forage.
This walk is funded by Devon Community Foundation.

Jeanette Tucker
Founder and Director of Sage Green CIC
Gardening has always been a part of Jeanette life but not how it is now. and I am the Founder and Director of Sage Green CIC. With a new Horticulture qualification and a huge desire to change her career path, she created Sage Green CIC. The community market garden isn’t just a place where beautiful and tasty vegetables are grown organically, it is also a place that fosters well-being, resilience, and work experience for our broader community in South Devon. Jeanette enjoys working alongside people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. Seeing how they change and overcome struggles while they work side by side in the market garden growing vegetables is a humbling and rewarding key aspect to her work.
